I was born in Moscow, Russia, where I lived most of my life. I moved to the United States with my family in December 1992. I became involved in art in high school. Although I mostly taught myself, I also took some art classes at the Moscow University. For me, education has been a continuous process.
When I lived in Moscow, Russia, I often hiked and traveled to ancient towns with my sketch art book. Among the towns I visited are Vladimir and Suzdal, with their old, white stone cathedrals from the XII - XIIIth centuries. Their influence was so great, that they inspired me to create my first major work. I repeated the motif of this painting in my first U.S. painting. This painting, named “Entreaty”, was created in 1995, very soon after we moved to the United States, another artistically inspiring country.
I moved to the United States in 1992 with my husband and daughter. We now reside in Reston, VA. As citizens of the U.S. and Russia, we can visit Russia more frequently. We visit my family and travel to historical sites around the country yearly.
I regularly exhibit my works at the Workhouse Art Center (WAC) in Manassas. Working with other artists at this gallery, I continue to be inspired by their experiences, cultural knowledge and love for nature.
In addition to conventional media, I have developed innovative techniques and approaches, such as textured paper and folding boards. I work with watercolors, acrylic, gouache, charcoal and pencil.
